Sri Lanka National Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship 2024: A Remarkable Triumph for University of Sri Jayewardenepura

The Sri Lanka National Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship 2024 took place on the 20th and 21st of May at the Sports Hotel Complex Gymnasium, Ministry of Sports, Colombo 07. Organized annually by the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, the event showcased remarkable talent and competitive spirit. The championship began on May 20th with a grand opening ceremony, setting the stage for the Sparring Events. Male and female competitors competed in eight weight classes each, demonstrating their skill and determination. This prestigious tournament saw participation from teams across the nation, including those representing the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Our university’s women’s team proudly joined the competition and delivered outstanding performances. They fought against top athletes from across the country and succeeded in securing medals, highlighting their dedication and skill on the national stage.

● N.W.M.U. Sandeepani – Silver Medalist in Sparring (46-49 kg)
● H.I.Senaratne – Bronze Medalist in Sparring(49-53 kg)
● H.C. Gangodawila –Bronze Medalist in Sparring (57–62 kg)
● K.D.N.P. Kumara – –Bronze Medalist in Sparring (57–62 kg)

These achievements highlighted not only the athletes’ determination but also their relentless pursuit of excellence. The University of Sri Jayewardenepura’s women’s athletes have once again marked their name in history, inspiring future generations of Taekwondo enthusiasts.
