W.A. Chris Pavithra Shines at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championship

W.A. Chris Pavithra, a first-year undergraduate of the Department of Sport Science, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, delivered an inspiring and record-breaking performance at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championship 2025 held in Swansea, England. Representing Sri Lanka on the international stage, he demonstrated exceptional determination, technical skill, and competitive spirit.
In the 100 m Manikin Carry with Fins, Pavithra powered through the B Final to secure 3rd place, breaking the Sri Lankan national record and surpassing his own previous mark. This achievement stands as a remarkable testament to his dedication and rapid improvement in one of the most demanding sprint events in lifesaving sport.
His momentum continued in the 50 m Manikin Carry, where he achieved 2nd place in the B Final, further reinforcing his position as one of the most promising emerging athletes in the national lifesaving arena.
Pavithra also played a pivotal role in elevating Sri Lanka’s relay performances. In the 4 × 25 m Manikin Relay, he contributed to the team’s qualification for the A Final, where they finished 5th and established a new national record. The success continued with the 50 m Medley Relay, in which the Sri Lankan team finished 7th in the A Final, once again setting a national record.
His achievements not only highlight his personal excellence but also bring pride to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
