J’pura Flames Ignite the Range: Double Gold Glory for Shooting Stars!

In the crisp air of Kohuwa, from November 14 to 25, the National Shooting Sport Federation of Sri Lanka (NSSF) unleashed its Open Rifle/Pistol Championship a battlefield where precision meets passion. Amid the sharp cracks of air rifles and the steady gaze of competitors, two trailblazers from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura’s Faculty of Applied Sciences lit up the scoreboard like shooting stars.

Second-year Sports Science and Management student Y.K.D. Thissangi Geethma, our air rifle ace, stormed the arena with unstoppable fire. She claimed double podium dominance: gold in the 10m Junior Women’s Air Rifle/Pistol event and bronze in the 10m Senior Women’s category. Thissangi didn’t just shoot she sculpted victory from thin air, proving that focus and finesse can topple giants.

Not to be outshone, third-year powerhouse D.H.A.V. Nehasha Weerasinghe delivered a masterclass of her own. In the 10m Senior Women’s Air Rifle event, she racked up an electrifying 549 points (8x) to snag silver on the national stage. Nehasha’s poise under pressure turned the range into her personal kingdom, showcasing the grit that defines J’pura athletes.

From the entire Sri Jayewardenepura community, we send heart-pounding congratulations to Thissangi, Nehasha, and every coach, teammate, and supporter who fueled these triumphs. J’pura   Flames, you’re burning brighter than ever keep aiming high!

Celebrate precision, perseverance, and pride in sports science! #JPuraShootingStars
