SMASHES 2026 Concludes Successfully with Outstanding Participation
The “SMASHES 2026” Badminton Tournament, organized by the Sri Jayewardenepura University Badminton Team, was successfully held from 28th March to 2nd April 2026 at the St. Joseph’s College Indoor Sports Complex and the Mercantile Badminton Association Indoor Courts.
“SMASHES” is one of the most recognized junior badminton tournaments in Sri Lanka. The tournament was first introduced in 2007 and was continuously conducted until 2010. After a brief pause, it returned in 2018 and has since continued to grow in popularity among young badminton players across the country. This year’s tournament attracted a large number of talented young shuttlers representing schools and badminton clubs from all around Sri Lanka. Competitions were conducted under several age categories, providing an opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit.
Throughout the six-day tournament, players displayed exceptional performances in both singles and doubles events. The competition maintained a high standard of play, drawing appreciation from parents, coaches, officials, and badminton enthusiasts who attended the event.
In addition to championship titles awarded in the singles and doubles categories, several special awards including “Best Player” recognitions were presented to outstanding participants for their remarkable performances during the tournament.
SMASHES 2026 concluded on a highly successful note with positive feedback from players, parents, coaches, and supporters. The tournament once again highlighted the commitment of the Sri Jayewardenepura University Badminton Team towards promoting badminton and encouraging young sporting talent in Sri Lanka.
