Japura badminton players dazzles in Nuwara-eliya

The Summer season all Island open badminton championship 2024 organized by the Sri Lankan Badminton Association is taking place at the Nuwara-eliya municipal council badminton courts from the 20th of April to 26th of April 2024 with a large number of badminton players competing against each other.

Four undergraduates from the university of Sri Jayawardenapura is competing in this tournament and has displayed exceptional talents in the courts.

  1. Jananuwani Amanda De Alwis from the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce emerged as the Runners-up in the Open Women’s Singles event and bagged the Championship in the Open Women’s doubles event together with Nilasi Balasooriya from the university of Moratuwa.
    She also won the 3rd place at the Open mixed doubles event together with Rivi Paranahewa from University of Sri Jayawardenapura.
  2. Vidara Suhasni Vidanage from the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce emerged as the Champion in the Open Women’s Singles event.
  3. Rivi Jayana Paranahewa from the Faculty of medical sciences won the 3rd place at the open mixed doubles event together with Jananuwani Amanda from university if Sri Jayawardenapura.
  4. Thenuka De Silva from the Faculty of Applied Sciences was emerged as the Runners-up at the open men’s singles event and bagged the championship in the Open men’s doubles event together with Tharusha Madhubhanu.
    He also won 2nd place at the Open mixed doubles event together with Samidi Onali.
