Outstanding Achievements by USJ Undergraduates at the Sri Lanka National Powerlifting Championship 2025
The undergraduates of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura showcased exceptional strength, determination, and competitive spirit at the Sri Lanka National Powerlifting Championship 2025, delivering remarkable performances across multiple weight categories.
Representing different faculties of the university, these talented athletes demonstrated their commitment to excellence in both academics and sports, earning podium finishes at the national level.
- U. Arshika – Faculty of Applied Sciences
- S.G.M.P. Karunarathne – Faculty of Applied Sciences
- W. Lakshan Mendis – Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences
- U. Arshika, a 1st-year student from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, competed in the 84 kg weight class and secured 2nd place. Arshika impressed the audience with her powerful lifts and exceptional discipline, securing a well-deserved silver medal in her category.
- S.G.M.P. Karunarathne, a 2nd-year student from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, competed in the 52 kg weight class and achieved 2nd place.Karunarathne’s consistent performance and technical skill earned her a strong second-place finish, continuing her streak as a promising athlete in the powerlifting arena.
- W. Lakshan Mendis, a 2nd-year student from the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, competed in the 120 kg weight class and earned 2nd place. Competing in one of the most challenging categories, Mendis demonstrated exceptional strength, placing second after an impressive series of lifts.
These achievements highlight the growing success of powerlifting within the university’s sports programs and reflect the dedication of our student-athletes and coaching staff.
